What Is SMME?

SMME (School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) is one of NUST's core engineering schools at the H-12 Islamabad campus. Established in 2008 when the main campus opened, SMME has become a centre of excellence for mechanical and aerospace engineering education and research.

BE Mechanical Engineering at SMME

BE Mechanical Engineering is a 4-year program covering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials, machine design, manufacturing processes, and heat transfer. SMME's mechanical program competes with CEME's mechanical program in Rawalpindi — SMME is known for research while CEME is known for hands-on lab work.

BE Aerospace Engineering at SMME

BE Aerospace Engineering at SMME covers aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, aircraft structures, and aerospace materials. This program is also offered at CAE Risalpur with a military focus. SMME's aerospace program is newer and has a civilian focus with strong research components.

Departments and Labs

SMME has departments of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. Labs include the aerodynamics lab, structure lab, propulsion and heat transfer lab, material science lab, and numerical analysis lab.

Fee, Merit, and Scope

Tuition at SMME is PKR 197,050 per semester. NET merit for Mechanical Engineering is typically 75-77%+. Aerospace Engineering has slightly lower merit but still competitive. Mechanical engineers from SMME work in automotive, power, oil and gas, and aerospace industries. Pakistan's growing aviation and defense sectors create demand for aerospace engineers.
