AKU has signalled a likely UCAT move for 2027, but the format is not confirmed. The 2026 sample was 100 MCQs in 40 plus 60, 2 hours, with -0.25 per wrong answer in Science Achievement only. A valid MDCAT stays mandatory for MBBS.

AKU entry test 2027 preparation: AKU has signalled a likely shift to UCAT for 2027, but the format is not confirmed. Work on HSSC science and reasoning while choosing targeted practice after the format is confirmed.

AKU Entry Test 2027 Preparation: format, sample and eligibility

The 2026 sample paper is the historical reference: 100 questions in two sections, Science Achievement with 40 MCQs and Science and Mathematics Reasoning with 60 MCQs, in 2 hours. In that sample, -0.25 applied per wrong answer in Science Achievement only, and Reasoning had none. Study the HSSC curriculum plus the sample while the 2027 format is decided.

Area2026 reference
Sample structure100 MCQs in 2 sections: Science Achievement 40, Science and Mathematics Reasoning 60; 2 hours on the 2026 sample
Marking-0.25 per wrong answer in Science Achievement only; no negative marking in Reasoning
AKU Test ruleRequired for MBBS applicants except the overseas graduate route below; scores valid only in the year taken
MDCAT ruleValid MDCAT submission mandatory for all candidates under PMDC rules in force
AAMC exceptionOverseas 4 year degree holders submit AAMC MCAT 500 including 125 in each of 4 components; MDCAT still required
AKU test format, marking and eligibility (2026 reference)

Science Achievement covers Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The Science and Mathematics Reasoning section tested recall, application, deduction and problem solving in the 2026 sample.

Who was eligible for AKU MBBS in the 2026-27 cycle?

For the 2026-27 cycle, eligibility minima differed by education route. Graduate and other system routes carried extra conditions, and IBCC equivalence applied where relevant.

  • Pakistani HSSC pre-medical with minimum 70 percent aggregate, with Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics as mandatory HSSC subjects.
  • O Level with at least six subjects including English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, plus HSSC pre-medical with minimum 70 percent aggregate.
  • International Baccalaureate with minimum 32 points overall, with Biology and Chemistry plus Physics or Mathematics at higher or standard level.
  • Other systems with at least 70 percent or equivalent plus IBCC equivalence, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics at HSSC or equivalent level.
  • Graduates with cumulative grade B or CGPA 3.0 on a 4 point scale or at least 70 percent, plus at least 70 percent in HSSC with Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. A Level, US, Canadian and other routes have separate criteria in the booklet.

Who took the AKU Test in the 2026-27 cycle?

For the 2026-27 admission cycle, all candidates applying to the MBBS programme had to take the AKU Test, in Pakistan and overseas, whatever the high school curriculum. Equivalent tests were not accepted. The one exception was overseas 4 year degree holders, who submitted AAMC MCAT with a minimum 500 including 125 in each of the four components, with 2023 and later sittings counted for 2026 to 2027.

A valid MDCAT stays mandatory for all candidates under the PMDC requirements in force.

What were the 2026-27 admission cycle dates?

For the 2026-27 admission cycle, applications ran from 8 March to 13 May 2026 and are now closed. The AKU admission test was held on 5 July 2026, and shortlisting and interviews ran in August 2026. The last date for the Pakistani HSSC attested copy was 14 September 2026. Classes begin in January 2027.

How should you prepare for the AKU test?

Work on HSSC science for accuracy and daily reasoning sets for pace. In the 2026 sample, Science Achievement applied -0.25 per wrong answer, so if that marking is retained, avoid blind guesses there; Reasoning had no penalty, so attempt every item. Build a timed routine around the HSSC curriculum and the 2026 sample.

  1. Revise HSSC Biology, Chemistry and Physics for recall and application, with short daily recall blocks.
  2. Train reasoning and mathematical reasoning daily with deduction and problem solving sets.
  3. If you use the 2026 sample for practice, allow two hours for its 100 questions.
  4. Review errors by area the same evening and retest weak topics within a week.

Take our free AKU practice mock to practise science and reasoning from the earlier format. Review each explanation and revisit the topics you missed.
