What Is Chemical Engineering at SCME?

SCME (School of Chemical and Materials Engineering) at NUST H-12 offers a PEC-accredited BE Chemical Engineering program. The curriculum covers material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, process dynamics and control, and process plant design. Students learn how to design and operate large-scale chemical processes.

Labs and Facilities

SCME has dedicated teaching and research labs including the unit operations lab, reaction engineering lab, process control lab, polymer processing lab, and environmental engineering lab. The school has strong research output in nanotechnology, polymer science, and materials characterization.

Industry Scope in Pakistan

Chemical engineers from SCME are employed by Pakistan's largest industrial companies: Engro Corporation (fertiliser and foods), Fatima Group, Fauji Fertiliser, Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL), Pakistan Refinery Limited, and pharmaceutical companies including Searle and Getz Pharma. The fertilizer and oil and gas sectors pay the highest salaries for chemical engineers.

Postgraduate Options

SCME offers MS and PhD programs in Chemical Engineering, Materials and Surface Engineering, and Nanoscience and Engineering. Many undergraduate students continue to MS at SCME or pursue PhD abroad.
