Food Science at NUST ASAB

BS Food Science and Technology is a 4-year program that combines chemistry, microbiology, and engineering to study food from production to consumption. The curriculum covers food chemistry (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids reactions), food microbiology (spoilage organisms, pathogens, fermentation), food processing and preservation (canning, freezing, drying, pasteurisation), quality assurance and food safety (HACCP, ISO standards, food regulations), and product development (creating new food products).

Industry Scope in Pakistan

Pakistan's food processing industry is growing rapidly. Major employers include Nestle Pakistan, Engro Foods, Shan Foods, FrieslandCampina, Mitchell's, and Gourmet Foods. Roles include quality assurance officer, production supervisor, R&D technologist, food safety auditor, and regulatory affairs officer.

Further Study

Graduates can pursue MS in Food Science or related fields at ASAB or abroad. Research areas include food safety, food product development, and nutrition.
