NET Engineering Syllabus

NET Engineering syllabus guide for 2027: the broad SSC plus HSSC Part I and II base, English SAT pattern only, official weights, practice focus areas, merit and eligibility.

What to study

Revise Mathematics and Physics from SSC and HSSC Part I and II. English follows the SAT pattern, with practice in reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. Use the topic groups below to organise revision.

Official weights for Engineering and Computing

Mathematics50%
Physics30%

Practice Focus Areas

  • Mathematics: algebra and functions, trigonometry, calculus and analytical geometry.
  • Physics: mechanics, waves and optics, electricity and magnetism, and modern physics.
  • English: reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure.

How to allocate study time

Start with half your practice time for Mathematics, 30% for Physics and 20% for English, then adjust for weak subjects. Use timed sets and review mistakes by topic. Aim to finish 200 questions in 180 minutes rather than spending the same time on every question.

Modes, Series and Dates

The test is offered in computer-based or paper-based format, depending on the centre and series. Confirm your series mode on the portal and your admit card before your date. You can sit more than one series and NUST counts your best score, with one attempt per series for a discipline and a separate form and fee per series. NUST’s tentative Series 1 schedule lists registration from 4 October to 14 November 2026, with Islamabad tests from 17 November. Confirm the open series on the live portal and dates page.

Plan your merit

For the standard SSC and HSSC route, merit on NET basis is 75 percent NET with 15 percent from the official applicable HSSC result and 10 percent SSC. For O/A Level candidates who are in A Level (final year), NUST assigns 25 percent weightage to O Level equivalence marks as per the equivalence certificate issued by IBCC, Pakistan. NET carries 75 percent weight in the general merit table. NUST sets merit by programme and year; this page does not predict closing merit. Estimate your result with the NUST merit calculator.
