How the Mess System Works
Each hostel at NUST has its own mess (dining facility). The menu is managed by a student Mess Committee elected by hostel residents. The committee decides the menu in coordination with the hostel administration and mess contractor. Meal timings are fixed: breakfast 7-8:30 AM, lunch 1-2:30 PM, dinner 7-9 PM. Hostel residents are expected to eat in their assigned hostel mess.
Mess Rules
NUST has formal mess rules that all hostel residents must follow. Mess charges are payable in advance. Students who vacate the hostel temporarily (e.g., semester break) can apply for freezing of mess charges. Visitors are allowed in the mess with guest coupons available from the hostel administration.
Campus Cafeterias
For meals outside mess timings or for non-hostel students, NUST has 4 main cafeterias (C-1 to C-4) and several cafes including Margalla Cafe, Coffee Lounge, and Retro Cafe. These offer a variety of food including sandwiches, burgers, biryani, Chinese food, and snacks.
